I really like the IFly but it's deja vu all over again. Stopped using my 700 (bought new) but it would shut off at random. Apparently it had to do with an internal something or other and was way out of warranty. So on 4/20/18 bit the bullet on a new 740b from Aircraft Spruce.

I wanted to avoid any of the previous power problems so I hard wired it using the DC Hard Wire cord provided by IFly (experimental aircraft). Yes I've checked the wiring. The total power cord length from the fuse to the unit is about 12". There is nothing wrong with the wiring.

And now it's happening all over again. It just shuts off at random. This makes me want to just scream. I literally designed my panel around the IFly and now I'm really regretting this decision. My plane is not just a weekend hamburger vehicle. I need to be able to rely on it for the flying I do.

I've searched this web site and can't find what the warranty period is. I'm still under one year but usually electronics are less than that.

Looking for guidance on what my options are - and wondering if others are having similar problems.

I think I remember a few reports of problems with the power cord making connection when plugged into the 740b.

There have been reports of the internal connection of the power plug being flimsy and contact with the internal ground blade inside the 740 not robust.  I resorted to taking the 740 apart carefully and bending the ground blade so there was a firm contact with the outer shield of the power plug. That was over a year ago and I have not had any problems since. I believe the problem arises when the power plug gets pulled sideways by the cord being to short.  Especially so if the 740 is on the yoke, and you turn the yoke hard with up elevator with too short of cord. This can happen when you do the pre-takeoff check list and check for free control movement. My two cents.

I wanted to make a final report on my issue. I believe it was a combination of two problems.

The DC cord plug was not a tight fit which may have contributed to the problem. Secondly, and kore importantly, I discovered that my ground wire was loose. I had riveted it on and assumed it was a tight fit. I was wrong. I corrected this and got a new DC wire/plug from IFly and I have had no more shut downs.
