Hello iFly Community,

I am having a problem with the Stratux unit creating a high-volume static sound in the radio when I fly. Usually the static will go away after I take off from my home airport but there are some times that the static is so bad that I can barely hear the radio.  If I am going cross country, the static seems to disappear once I leave the area of my airport For context, I also have some type of static sound in my number 1 comm radio when my airplane is sitting in front of the hangar that goes away as soon as I taxi away from the hangar area.  I don't know if that is having some effect on the Stratux unit or is the Stratux creating its own static.  Has anyone else had any trouble with the Stratux creating static in the comm radios?  If so, what did you do to correct it?  Thank you.

Sam Washington, N6477W

Never had that problem with my stratux.  Does it go away when you unplug it?  How do you know it is the stratux?  Did you try turning the alternator off to check to see if that is generating static?

I'm not a radio guy, but this sounds like something on your airport emitting a signal that's causing the problem.  Possibly being picked up by the ADS B antennas installed on the Stratux.

RF gremlins can be hard to track down.  Does this only occur around your home airport, or does it occur at takeoff from any airport?

I once had an issue where a 12V wire behind the panel was loose enough that at high pitch-up attitudes, it would sway close to an intercom wire and induce noise in the headsets.  In level flight and descents, the noise went away.  Could it be something like that?

Hello IFly Community,

Thanks to those who replied to my question.  The static noise at my hangar goes away as soon as I leave the hangar area.  The static in the radio tends to linger until I depart my home airport area and then it usually goes away also but it does return sometimes.  I found out that it was the Stratux by unplugging it once while the noise was occurring and the static did go away and came back when I plugged the unit back.  The static seems to be random and doesn't happen at a set altitude or anything as far as I can tell.  I haven't flown the airplane lately so I haven't been able to test it again but I hope to fly again soon and I will re-post what happens.  Thanks all.

Sam Washington
