Back in April 2015, I added to a thread (Re: Hide course line? ) about the obcuration of important data on approach plates, and I agree that's a problem. That's when I originally suggested the translucent course line, and as I said I have found the press and hold method to momentarily thin the line acceptable. But I really don't like the line being thin for the whole size of the approach plate. What about going thin on the first fix where the plotted route touches the final approach course, whether its a IAF, FAF, or whatever? That will keep the data charted down the approach course unobscured, yet provide an easy to see course line until established on the final.

But isn't the continued development of iFly an awesome sounding job? The engineers out there will attest that scope-creep is a tricky thing to balance and manage in some industries. As they sometimes say, "There comes a time in every program when you have to shoot the engineers, else it never be done". But that's the job at iFly! Their job is intentional scope-creep! And they get paid for it! I'll go post some suggested wish-list (scope creep) ideas.

Thanks!

Please check out the next 10.0 beta release tomorrow.  I have adjusted the logic and discussed with Walter as well.   I think you will find it an improvement.

In short, I made the "thin" not so thin -- 2 pixels wide instead of 1 pixel wide.   Plus now if you just tap the route line anywhere, the route will thicken up and show you the waypoint fix names/altitudes.   (in current version you have to tap an actual waypoint, now you just have to tap the route line anywhere)

Hopefully, the changes are perceived as an improvement for most.

Hi Brian,

I tried out the Beta version as you suggested.  I really liked the ability to toggle the line thickness and waypoints on/off (in fact, what about a similar toggling on/off of the waypoint names even along the whole route?), but I found the continued presence of the QuickView box to be distracting.  What if that could fade out, or almost out, or when closed, it left the route line and waypoints bold until the next cycle through the same sequence?  I'm still an advocate of leaving the course line fat with waypoints bold as a rule, and using the touch/hold to thin when I need to but I may be alone in that. What about an option switch to turn the auto-thining on/off?

One thing I'm still thinking about is the total removal of the route line when the touch/hold is used when the line is already thin, and I'm not sure about the altitudes being shown.

Anyway, thanks for the opportunity to share my thoughts on the matter, I'll fly it some more and see how it goes.

I think your idea of keeping the route line fat/highlighted after you dismiss QV is a very good idea; I was already toying with this idea.   To make it thin again, just tap the map anyway but on the route line.  This'll make it easy to toggle fat/thin.

Oh, I like your thought on making it thin again...
