One last update on this WiFi issue......  After getting the Stratux back from Crewdog Electronics, I ran it some more on the bench.  I used only the recommended EasyAcc power bank, and the proper menu shutdown from the iFly.  The unit ran fine for 12 hours.  The next day when I started it up with a fresh battery, WiFi would not come on.  I restarted it and it worked for 2 minutes and quit WiFi.  Tried again, and it quit after 5 minutes.   While it was working, and also when it lost WiFi,  the red and green lights were on steady the whole time. 

The WiFi unit is integral to the board and cannot be replaced without a new Raspberry Pi.

Oneniner,

Agree...time to get rid of that particular unit - more trouble than it's worth. 

It simply should not be causing you THAT many issues...

Are you going to get another one or try anohter brand?

I am considering installing the Echo UAT, which would make me compliant with ADSB.  I go to the Seattle area occasionally, and some other places it is required.  Only one airport in Montana is Class C, but I commonly fly higher than 10,000 feet, too.  The Echo is nice for the price, since it is In and Out.  Easier to install for me because I don't have wingitp lights.  Those would require fiberglass and paint work.  I just wish the Echo did not require the addition of a $400 GPS.  The Levil looks good for In and AHRS.  Maybe someone will come out with a more cost-effective ADSB Out to go with it.

If I decide to have something better for an attitude instrument than the old turn-and-bank I have, The MGL Blaze looks like a good choice.  But then, so is staying out of the clouds....  wink

Oneniner - sounds like a good plan.

I went with the TAILBEACON and STRATUX as I am "plankton on the food chain of aviation" in terms of financial resources for my humble Cessna 150!

Believe it or not, I was able to get ADSB in and ADSB out for less than $2,000 total by going with the TAILBEACON and the STRATUX.

I found both "on sale" and acted. Had I qualified for the rebate, I would have gotten them both for less than $1500, but because of delays witn uAvionix with certifications, I missed out.

Still, $2,000 for both is not too shabby.

I live between the Pittsburgh, Philly, Baltimore, Washington and Newark / New York Class B, with multiple Class C's and 60 mile veils PLUS the SFRA and FRZ, with some PROHIBITED and RESTRICTED airspace thrown in to boot!  It was a MUST for up here...

Not sure if most folks know this, but you can legally fly UNDER a Class C shelft without ADSB out...seems silly to allow that, but then NOT allow us to fly to within 60 miles of a Class B, but it is what it is....

Flying around the DC area, it is NOT unusual to hear ATC tell a pilot to "call this number when you land" meaning you probalby are in for a violation. 

We also have regular SFRA and FRZ busts where jets and helos can get real close to you...in addition to lasers and radars pointed at you in a not so friendly manner. Most pilots I know have already given up on flying in and around the DC area. The airports within the SFRA and FRZ are slowly drying up except for College Park, which seems to be doing OK. So, no way to get around it up here...

When I fly, the FISH FINDER pretty much lights up with all the traffic going between all those big cities. Most of it is well above me...

Anyway, sorry your STRATUX did not work out....sometimes you just get a lemon.

Good luck with your ADSB install - keep us posted on how you like it.

Thanks for the encouragement and the info,  Mike.  Compared to what I'm used to, your airspace sounds like a nightmare.  I visited DC a few years ago, and just the highways were scary.  The hazards we deal with out here are mostly wind, snow, wind, big rocks sticking up above 9,000 feet, and wind.  I love flying in the mountains when you can catch a day of light wind, and the prairies in between are fun, too.  I think ADSB is really a good thing, and I am one who is slow to accept a lot of the reguations that make us ad expensive junk on our planes.  I also fly Ultralights with nothing in them but a stick, rudder pedals, and a throttle.  Gave up Hang Gliding when I found I was the only one left around here doing it.  That was great fun, with no stick, pedals, OR throttle!
