Greetings Gents,

-Easy question for many of you tech-geniuses and expereinced pilots!

-Does it matter how the antennas are depolyed on the STRATUX?

-Mine are going "straight out" while fastned to my area just ahead of the panel in the windscreen area. (They point straight ahead and are calibrated as such)

-I flew with a gent who said "The antennas should be bent UP so they pick up more."

-Is this true?  Would it make any difference if the antennas were straight out OR bent to the UP position

-I've never seen anything on this - just wondering what the BEST position is for the STRATUX antennas.

-I'll sign off and just let the comments/knowledge come in on this thread.

-BTW, I usually fly VMC at between 1500 and 2500 AGL, so almost ALL traffic is above me.

Thanks in advance. I truley appreciate the many things I have learned while being on this forum and just reading...thank you all.

Radio signals are transmitted vertically polarized, horizontally polarized, or circularly polarized. Most transmissions for aircraft are vertically polarized, which means that your antennas will recieve a stronger signal if the antenna is pointed straight up or down - like your comm antennas.

Basically you wnat the receiving antenna to be parallel to the transmitting antenna. I mounted a UAT antenna on the belly and ran coax to my Stratux - it looks like a transponder antenna - and it works great. I'm mostly getting signals from the ground ADS-B towers - I don't worry about getting those above me a few seconds before I get them from the towers.

The Stratux antenna should be pointing straight up.

Thanks Gents!

I will simply start bending them to the UP position and see what that does for me...apprecaite the quick response.

I'm sure in theory it makes a difference, but after a year of flying with the Stratux, I've found no difference in reception, regardless of antenna orientation.
I've had the unit fall off the window mount and onto the floor in a jumble and had perfect reception for hours that way.
I've left it in my flight bag.
I've deployed it on the dash and horizontally in the passenger window.
I've never experienced a drop-out.
YMMV
