Don,

It is a mystery to me why you are not picking up anything from your tower and/or the ADSB is not showing you.

When you fly over/near it, does it appear to be working (transmitting) on your iFly tablet?

With mine, I can see the little blue tower "transmitting" as shown in this photo.

Concur this is a sketchy system and it is on-again, off-again around here. Some days it works fine, some...not so much.

With all "new" systems we see "teething problems"...and because this was not an optimal roll-out or design implementation plan, I expected some of this to happen...

Sorry it is not working as well for you. I suspect with maybe more towers it might get better.

What are OTHER pilots at your airport saying?

I don't know why our planes doen't show up from takeoff to landing and beyond, but my theory is that it's part of the vendor program options.  I do know that since I had some issues with our ADS-B, I asked when I was at OSH last summer in the FAA Pavilion.  They called up a plotting of my aircraft and it showed me if not completely then mostly from startup to shut down.  I was tracked (at MDW) on the various taxiways and the runway.  Of course they have ground RADAR there, and that may explain it, but when I look on Flght Aware on line, it only shows me from a couple hundred feet AGL, and sometimes not at all.

Mike, that IS very strange...

My only hope is that the system WILL get better and perhaps more reliable.  Time will tell.

I did a short test flight today. FlightAware's track of it is the best I've seen yet for my Searey--shows all but the takeoff and landing (iPhone Xs Max):

The loopy end begins when I was at about 1500 AGL. By the big loop I was at 2700 AGL. The straight end is downwind and turning base. (I had to extend downwind while a military helicopter bivouaced on the runway for a day or two.)

I still don't understand why the takeoff and landing don't show up, because the closest ADS-B antenna is on the field, right where the light blue dot is.  I've never seen that antenna displayed on the 740, but it's not a real tower--only about 30 feet tall.

Just for fun, here's iFly's version:

Don, that is really neat!

Still cannot understand WHY it won't show you lower to the ground, and even on the surface. Other aircraft with ADSB out are showing on taxiways on other apps.  I am in the same situation - many of these apps do not recognizd my aircraft either.

By chance, have you ever tried AVARE as the free EFB? It is a good backup to iFly. Not nearly as good/user friendly but picks up on ADSB really well.

If you get it, you simply have to download the current VFR charts for your area so you have moving-map display. All at no cost.
