I use Tab A also. Just have to make sure you keep it cool in summer, I mounted mine next to the left window air vent. Also, make sure the sun isn't shining on it when you park the plane to get your $100 hamburger. It will be too hot and shut down charging 1st, then the tablet will shut down.

Thanks for the tip, John....I will do that.

I almost always cover my electronics with charts if I am not going to stow them during the $100 Hamburger time...but in this case, I will probably take it out all the time now.

Thanks - Mike N714AJ

Alternative suggestion - I am using a Huawei MediaPad M3 8.4 in my RV8, in a RAM X-mount on the right side of the panel, and am extremely  pleased with the device.  Good size for the smaller cockpit.  Excellent screen resolution and decent brightness for daylight operation.  GPS and accel/gyro both work great. Does not have a barometric sensor.  Good response (octa-core processor and good GPU). No issues with turning off in flight. (I also cover it with a cloth when leaving the plane on the ramp in the AZ sunshine.)  Good battery life running EFB (maybe 2.5 hours? using internal GPS, with WiFi to ABS-B, Bluetooth turned off, at max brightness), but I now use a panel power adapter.  Runs Android 7.0 and comes with minimal bloat-ware. It's a 2016 design and therefore is available at reasonable prices.  Do NOT get the "Lite" version!

The newer M5 version uses a different proprietary chipset and runs Android 8.0, but is very similar otherwise. I haven't used one, but would expect a similar good experience.  Priced a bit higher than the M3, of course, but still in the $325 range w/64GB of storage.  They do make a larger, 10" version, but again I haven't used one.

Mike:

Forgot to mention that my Samsung Tab A is WiFi only making it much less expensive and I don't have to have another unit charge from Verizon.

If I need to connect with the Internet I just make my Verizon NOTE 9 phone a hotspot so the tablet connects through it.. Then I can get weather updates.

FWIW, I have the M5 version of the Huawei 8.4 as a replacement for two previous Samsung 8.4 tabs that died due to battery issues (come on Samsung, you can do better than this).  No issues after 4 months of iFly use, long battery life, great screen, IMHO worth every penny.
