I am on the 30-day trial, coming over from another Android app and giving this one a try.  The first thing i noticed while chair-flying is that the app is fairly intuitive, and I like the configurable instrument overlays.  Unfortunately, I also noticed that the map orientation is dependent on how I am holding the table when I start the app.  For example, if I start in portrait mode and hold it that way, it is fine.  But if I rotate the tablet (Samsung Galaxy Tab A) to landscape, things get bad.  The orientation of the screen changes, but the map is shown with large black bars on either side of the display.  The app retains the same aspect ratio as the portrait mode.  Additionally, if I touch the screen while it is doing this, it is apparently mapping to what should be displayed there, not the actual display.

This behavior would be fine since I always want to use the tablet in portrait mode and I dont plan on switching the display one the app is launched, except that I cannot lock the screen rotation.  Selecting the toggle to disable auto-rotate in the display settings menu within the iFly app does not have any noticeable effect, the behavior is the same whether it is selected or not.  Additionally, disabling auto-rotation from the tablet settings does not have any effect while the iFly app is on top.  When the app is not running, the tablet appropriately respects the disabling of the auto-rotate function, but when the app is running the behavior describe above happens.  Sine I keep the tablet on my kneeboard, it is prone to shifting around, and it is necessary that I lock the display to portrait mode so that it is not arbitrarily rotating.

Am I missing something, or is this a bug?

Thanks

You have to open the app in the orientation you want. You can not rotate on the fly. If you want to change orientation, shut down the app, rotate, then restart the app.

Yes, understood as I described that above.  The problem is that after I start the app there is no way of locking the mode to portrait.

Please see the attached screen shots. (EDIT: figuring out attached pictures - the order changed when I uploaded)

1.  Opening in Landscape, as expected

2.  Locking Screen Orientation

3.  Screen still rotates with bad results

4.  System screen auto-rotate is also disabled - same result

iFly automatically locks the screen orientation on start up. At least it is supposed to and does for me using iPad and iPhone. If I rotate the screen, it ask if I intend to change the orientation and gives a few seconds to answer yes. If you answer yes, it brings up a shut-down screen. If you ignore the question, the screen remains locked in the previous orientation. If your android device is not performing that way, maybe you need to contact support.

As Tim described, when the iFly setting to "Lock Screen Orientation" is unchecked, then if the device rotates, iFly should detect that and pop a question asking if you want the screen to rotate.  There's a 5-sec countdown timer, and if you choose "Yes" before time expires, then iFly quits, and you can relaunch it so that it starts up in the new orientation.  If you choose "No", then iFly should remain in the original screen orientation.  If the "Lock Screen Orientation" setting is checked, then iFly should neither change orientation nor offer the prompt to change orientation when the screen is rotated.

I wonder if there's a device setting unique to the Tab A that somehow overrides that behavior.  I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 phone, a Samsung Tab S2 tablet, and an ASUS ZenPad 3S 10 tablet, and all three devices behave as I described, not as you're experiencing.  The phone is running Android 8.0, and the ASUS and S7 are both running Android 7.0.  All three are running either iFly 10.3.58 or .59.
