Have any of you, while flying formation, been ask to "kill your parrot" (military term) meaning "squawk stby" by ATC lately?  Wonder why?  Well, I have friend who flies formation quite a bit and some time back he tells me that he recieved al letter from the FAA telling him his ADS-B was intermitten on such and such a date.  He called the number indicated and told them it was a formation flight and only lead was squawking as per ATC instructions since forever.  He was told the new policy is to never turn off your ADS-B, even in multiship formation flights.  He was also told that all radar facilities had been briefed that the term "kill your parrot" or "squawk stby" is now not in the official controller vocabulary.  Just what I heard.  Anyone have the "true skinny" or a different experience?  Dan from Reno

This https://www.faa.gov/documentLibrary/media/Order/JO_7110.65X_Air_Traffic_Control_CHG_1.pdf seems to indicate that "Squawk Standby" is still appropriate under certain circumstances.  At least according to JO7110.65X Change I, as of 28 March 2018.  Although I suppose there could have been some kind of internal memo or such that I didn't come across in my quick search.
