...gotta admit that's beautiful country, Mike!  Great that you folks clear it and fly "no matter if it's white and cold" cool.  Great looking airplane, too, BTW. With the tailBeacon in place & those flat lands (relatively), you'll be "seen" from start-up to shutdown. Great photos -- thanks for sharing!  Mac

Mike,

Good question. (see two posts up)

The ADSB out Tailbeacon actually goes into the WHITE LIGHT on the rudder and not actually on the RED beacon.

So, it IS on the part of the rudder that moves...technically, they have to do it.

However, I am very skeptical a device that weighs .5 oz more than the light will have ANY affect on a plane that is now 43 years old, has over 8,000 hours, is bent 6 ways to Sunday, and gets 85 knots on a good day....meaning I will pay to have the work done and certified, but it will not make ANY difference in flying the aircraft!

HERE is a diagram of it as it would be put into the rudder cap facing the 6 o'clock position of the aircraft...

Well, the TailBeacon is supposed to be certified by the end of March...here it is, the end of March.

Does anyone know anything about it? Thanks.

The last e-mail I got from uAvonics a few days ago was just about their upcoming Sun n Fun participation.  Nothing was said about the TailBeacon certification.

E-mail from uAvonics this morning says they have submitted for the TSO for the TailBeacon.  Here is a clip from the e-mail...

Our application still needs to be approved - but as always, we've been working closely with the ACO. Then we'll need to get the STC. As with skyBeacon, we expect a combination of an initial Approved Model List (AML) and the Form 337 minor modification process for those not on the AML. We should be able to wrap up the entire thing in 6-8 weeks.

But then everything with the FAA takes twice as long then expected, and then some....
