You're right Tim - it's going to be the SkyBeacon vs. the TailBeacon...

Needs to come in under $2,000 for me...that's my limit on my budget - every man has got to know his limitations!

I talked to Shane down at the Livermore AOPA Fly-In last weekend.  Shane now works for uAvonics.  His report is that they are hoping to hear back from the FAA anyday now on the TSO paperwork.  The STC paperwork is also in.  As soon as the TSO paperwork gets approved they need to do some flight testing to complete the STC package.  He said the plane is sitting ready to fly.

Shane also said they are coming out with a new ADS-B reciever, but sadly it will only work with Fore Flight...

uAvionix Receives FAA TSO Authorization for tailBeacon ADS-B OUT Solution

Bigfork, MT July 5, 2019

uAvionix today announced it has received Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)Technical Standard Order (TSO) approval for its tailBeacon integrated rear position light ADS-B OUT solution.   Much like the popular skyBeacon, the tailBeacon has been optimized for ease of installation times of less than one hour, including documentation.  The tailBeacon system consists of a total of four (4) TSOs:

  • ADS-B (TSO-C154c, Class B1S)
  • GPS (TSO-C145e, Class Beta 1)
  • Barometric altitude sensor (TSO-C88b)
  • Position Light (TSO-C30c, Type III)

In preparation for approval, uAvionix has returned the defib machine, tooled a second manufacturing line and obtained FAA Manufacturing Inspection District Office (MIDO) approval. uAvionix has already initiated the Supplemental Type Certificates (STC) program with the FAA and is ready to perform the required STC flight testing, and deliver product shortly thereafter.
tailBeacon is available at www.uavionix.com, through uAvionix trusted resellers, and our growing network of Qualified Installers.
uAvionix is at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, WI July 22 – 28, 2019. Be sure to visit us at Booth #3081/3082.

uAvionix is now flight testing on a high and low wing aircraft -- further testing for the faa.

Just a bit longer...

This could be the thing that saves people at the last minute, who don't or can't have a avionics shop appointment for a more complicated system.

Let's hope it all works for the sake of folks on a budget out here.

Has anyone heard about how the flight tests are going for the SKYBEACON?

Here it is Aug 2019...five months away from the day the "circles of doom" (enourmous Mode C circles) descend upon us and keep Americans out of thousands of miles of airspace...we are looking for this reasonably-priced and easy to install solution to keep flying!

Hope it works out soon - going to be right down to the wire for most of us surrounded by the Mode C aeas (thousands of miles)!

Hurry up youz guys!  Mike N714AJ
