I don't believe that Dave is saying that the GS and AS are the same above a certain altitude. I think he is saying it doesn't really matter from a safety point of view as long as you are not stalling the airplane. Certainly it matters in other respects and certainly it never "converges", but if you are just flying around for fun and have enough gas to get back to the airport safely, so what. Only when you get close to the hard stuff is it important for safety. Or on a cross country flight where it matters so you make sure you have enough gas to get where you want to.

Well, I suppose. For that matter, I suppose there are also pilots who don't bother with the details of altitude and barometric setting as the only altitude that really matters is 0 AGL. While I appreciate their philosophic point, pardon me if I don't fly with either group! I have no problem labeling "speed" as "ground speed" of course I just worry that he knows pilots and instructors who could confuse it with airspeed. If I climb in a plane with a pilot who looks at his GPS and says, "Gee, I wonder if this is my airspeed or ground speed? Oh well, no matter." I'm getting out! :-) thanks for the reply.
