Astro Link AHRS / GPS / ADS-B Receiver   $600
Stratux with Battery and Suction Mount  $225

Both look like relatively low cost ADS-B in solutions that seem reasonably well integrated/usable with the iFly

Both have some AHRS capability (something my basic instrumentation in my LSA lacks, and I'd like to have.)

On the "you get what you pay for" school of thought I'm trying to get my head around what Astro Link is giving me for that additional $375 in cost.

Anyone think they can summarize, or deny, there's $375 worth of more in the Astro Link?

I like that the Stratus is battery driven.... fewer clunky wires to try to thread on or under our small instrument panel.

Is the Astro Link's AHRS superior either in performance of display?

????

Alex

I don't know about Astro, but to me, you can't beat the Stratux for a portable ADS-B in device.  I've owned a couple expensive devices over the years and the Stratux works as well or better than either of them.  Mine has worked flawlessly.  I built my own for the price of parts from Amazon.  I also built and sold about 10 others on eBay and never got any complaints.  Build your own if you are into that sort of thing.

Thanks Tim.

Your report of your experience is meaningful to me.

Can you by chance comment on how, and how well, the Stratux AHRS works? Reason I ask is that, as I mentioned our bare-bones panel avionics don't include an AHRS, so that's part of my motive in buying a Stratux or Astro Link.

Mine works fine.  I'm sure I could fly the plane in IMC with no problems.  You do need the AHRS module that is about $15 on Amazon.

The AstroLink has a true AHRS Sensor, while the Stratux has a computerized AHRS Sensor.  The AHRS on the AstroLink will be consistently more accurate, while the Stratux (Still a great AHRS Sensor) might experience more of a drift in a shorter time, requiring calibration (an easy process) more often.
