8-31-10, For the past updates I selected several items to update such as several sectionals, (in this case three) now however I am receiving an error msg from the iFly part way into the units update effort and updating stops and I must select the "x"' in the msg box to exit . I have tried several times, including rebooting, both the computer and the iFly, formating the flash drives, and used several flash drives, no joy. Thankfully, I have a high speed connection. I was able to update several sectionals but only one at a time, rather cumbersome. I am using the same computer and have not downloaded or added anything new. The only change has been the iFly unit I am now using is a replacement and this is the first attempt at updating sectionals. What's wrong? dp

Hi Dave,

The most common reason for this issue is the file was not properly saved to the USB Flash Drive because it was removed from the computer without performing the "safely remove hardware" or "eject" procedure. Windows will slowly write the file to the drive in the background, which can sometimes take a minute or so even after it looks like it was fully downloaded. If the drive is prematurely removed the file will be corrupt. Is this a possible cause of your problem?

9-1-10, Nice try, I thought of that and carefully reviewed my technique and also made sure I allowed extra time to elapse before I proceeded. Still no joy after four attempts.. However, because the update zip file was still saved in the flash drive I ran it again a few days later, to get the exact error msg,. without having to go through that long download. Note: this time I ignored the error msg. " try re-downloading the update pkg." which I took to mean "save to my flash drive", for this attempt and just ran what I had already saved to my flash drive. I don't know if that error msg would have enlightened any; however, this time there was no error msg and the download installed into the iFly without any problems. I did the usual: from a hot boot and selected "check for update file" just like always. Maybe if I had tried to reinstall from the flash drive at the time of the error msg. without "re-downloading the update pkg." ??. I did observe that the unit got about 25% to 50% into the update each time, before the error msg. stopped it. I updated the iFly from my flash drive from a cold boot and a hot boot, didn't seem to matter still got the error msg. Each update package I tried was fresh from the web site. I thought at first that I was trying to update too big a file, but this successful update was six sectionals.

Just to be clear, the problem still exists. Just now I updated the metar/tfr file and got the same error msg. I followed the instructions "try "Re-downloading the update pkg" ne' save to my flash drive, per the error msg this seemed to solve it and the metar update was successful.

The msg reads as follows: "Unable to process update try re-downloading the update pkg. If problem continues contact Adventure Pilot Support. Error- IOException"

I do want to reinterate that I had no such problem with the other unit that was returned. dp

Dave,

I'm sorry you are having this problem. There is one simple test what will eliminate the file or the USB Flash drive as the problem: If you are able to fully unzip the file on the flash drive without any errors, and the iFly fails to install on the same file, then perhaps there is a problem with the USB port on your unit. If this is the case we will replace your unit again.

Another thing to be careful of: make sure you do not have several iFlyUpdatePackage*.zip files on the flash drive - that will make it difficult to know which update is being applied.

Please keep me advised.

Thanks,
Walter
