I'd like to see a little bit of a tweak in programming the ETE Final. On other GPSs I run along with the iFly the ETE seems to update about every 3 seconds. The iFLy appears to update the ETE time only every couple of minutes. I completely understand the need for damping and averaging this figure - an instant readout would change so fast as to be useless. But in my opinion the iFly is WAY over damped in this field. I would like to see it updated perhaps every 5 seconds or so. The utility in doing this is to be able to see the response with different engine power settings and mostly for altitude changes to see which yields the shortest time to destination. Because of the lag in updating I have seen 15 minute differences in ETE between the iFly and Garmin 396.

Thanks,

Steve

So that's the problem! I thought I was doing something wrong. Thanks for the post.

I'd like this added to the release notes since it explains the behavior even if doesn't necessarily need fixing. However, changing the update to 5 seconds sounds good to me.

The ETE calculation is based on a rolling 4 minute rolling average of you "velocity made good", which is the speed at which you are approaching your destination. The large time frame means a quick diversion will not affect your ETE as dramatically, but it also means it will take longer before it fully normalizes.

This is easy to change; perhaps a 15 second average would be better. Will other please provide feedback on this?

Thanks,
Walter

I agree with you, Walter. I think 15 seconds would be perfect.

I would think it better to be 5 or 15 seconds rather than the 4 minutes.
