I have a new iFly700 and successfully downloaded the iFlyUpdate Package.zip file.

I'm an old guy with only basic computer savvy. I have no idea how to transfer the Updates to to my iFly Flash Drive.

Oh yeah, I am using a IBM Think Pad laptop with Windows XP. Help!

Plug the flash drive into your computer.

Open "My Computer"

Click on the "Folders" icon in the menu area.

Open the folder that contains the downloaded iFly .zip file. You should see it on the right side.

On the left side should be a listing. My Computer, Local Disk (C:), etc. look down that list and find the description of your Flash Drive.

Left click on the iFly .zip file, and drag it from the right side to the name of your flash drive on the left side or possibly something like "Removable Disk Drive (E:)"

A box should open and say something like "Copying iFlyUpdatePackage.zip from (the old folder) to (the name of your flash drive)" and the little progress bar.

Once the file is transferred, right click on the listing of the flash drive in the left pane. Look down the list and highlight "Eject", then left click on "Eject".

The listing of the flash drive should disappear.

Remove the flash drive, put it in the iFly, and power the iFly up. The file should install itself automatically.

Hi Bob -

"I have a new iFly700 and successfully downloaded the iFlyUpdate Package.zip file.

It sounds like you have successfully downloaded the iFlyUpdate Package.zip from the internet onto your hard drive - probably drive (C:). (1) Plug your iFly Flash Drive into a USB port. (2) Go to Windows Explore (Right click on the 'Start' button on the desktop, and then left click on Explore. (3) Find the iFlyUpdate Package.zip file on the (C:) drive. (I have a 'Temp' folder that I keep on my (C:) drive just for downloaded files such as this.) (4) Left click the folder which contains the iFlyUpdate Package.zip. The folder will be in the left window and the file will be in the right window. (5) Move the elevator in the left window down until you see your Flash Drive listed - something like 'Removable Drive (E:)' (6) Click and drag the iFlyUpdate Package.zip file from the right window to the left window and place the cursor over 'Removable Drive (E:)' and then let go of the click button. (7) You should see a 'Copying' or a 'Moving' dialog box. (8) When the copying or moving box goes away, X out of Explore. (9) On the desk top screen, go to bottom of the screen, right hand corner to the task bar. You should find an icon that says 'Safely Remove Hardware'. Click on the icon and then click on 'Removable Drive (E:). You will then get a message that says something like 'Safe to Remove Drive (E:) (10) Now pull your Flash Drive out of the USB port. The Update file is now transfered to the Flash Drive.

Stick the Flash Drive into the iFly 700 and then plug the unit into the wall. The iFly will handle the update all by itself. Just pull the Flash Drive out when the unit is finish updating and has booted up to the navigation page (map page).

I hope this helps.

Thanks Guys! It's great to see owners helping each other out. Keep it up, makes my job easier!

BTW, I'm always telling folks how wonderful it is to be able to sell to pilots. Not sure how it happened, but the community of general aviation pilots seems to be made of happy, caring, reasonable people. Maybe the mean people aren't as comfortable up in the skies closer to heaven?
