I turned off automatic sync and dabbled a little with manual sync, but cautious to not shoot myself in the foot by it doing something I didn't expect...or counting on it to do something I do want by it doesn't do.

What does it sync?

Aircraft specs? Flight Plans? Instrument layouts? Custom waypoints? Flight trails (that would be nice)? Wifi network logon settings?    ???

I have a 740, an iPad, iFly Windows...and my co-owner of our iFly account has an iFly on his iPhone.

Is sync behavior different among and between these devices?

How about a chart/matrix answering these questions?

Alex,

The iFly will sync Flight Plans, Instrument layouts, Custom waypoints, Flight trails,  Filed Flight Records, Debug Logs all up to the Server.

While youre connected to WIFI go to 'Menu'--->'About'--->'My Account...'--->'Sync Devices'---> 'Upload files to server...'

This will upload the files mentioned above to server and from there you may go into 'My Account...' on your other devices linked to your account and Sync data from those devices that you uploaded files from.

The software is the same on all devices. The sync behavior is nearly identical when sharing Flight Plans, Instrument layouts, Custom waypoints, Flight trails,  Filed Flight Records, Debug Logs.

Thank!

1) A development suggestion: I would like sync to be customizable. For example, say, to exclude instrument layouts being synced, etc.

2) Since I have two SD card for my 740 and I have historically manually synced the flight track logs, I would appreciate knowing exactly what folders I would manually (geek-style folder contents copying) need to move from one card to the other for manually syncing each of the elements you list in the automatic sync. Any chance of a chart like that?

Thanks,

Alex

Alex,

When files are uploaded to the server each device is kept independent, so you can upload everything without concern about this overwriting other devices.  However you are given the option of selecting which items you want to upload.  When downloading, you can select to download from another device that's on your account, this will overwrite data.  But as with uploading, you can select the items.

All the user settings, logs, flight trails, etc, are in the \User folder on your SD card.   Most of the filenames and folders are fairly self explanatory, but they do change over time as we sometimes have to change the file format to accomodate new features.  Currently, the "instSettings*" contain your instrument layouts.  "settings.xml" is everything you can change in the "Setup" menu - app preferences basically.  "AircraftProfiles.config" is your aircraft profile.  the "#FlightTrails" folder contains your NMEA flight logs.  "#Logs" contains your application and ADSB logs (we only use this for debugging purposes).  "#FlightPlans" contains your flight plans.

Hope this helps,

Walter

Thanks Walter,

That's pretty much what I needed to know.
