Don,

Thanks for posting The Washington Monument!

You know, before 9/11, there was a corridore a person could fly N-S right through the DC area - no more and probably never again....

Too bad about that one. It's gone forever, for sure. Fortunately, there's still the Hudson River route. I thought they'd close it, too--but it's already been demonstrated that a VFR route past the World Trade Center is completely unrelated to knocking it down, so I guess that's enough reason to keep it open. Q.E.D.

Your airport RealView photos amused me, by the way. I first learned to fly at Reading, and I worked there for a while, too, so I thought I knew my way around. But when I landed there for the first time in about 50 years (and a few months before buying an iFly 740), I was completely lost! Had to 'fess up to the tower and ask for progressive taxi to the FBO.

"Which one," he says.

"Jeez louise!" says I--or words to that effect. "Uh... Reading Aviation?" That's where I used to work.

"Nah," he says. "Been gone for years."

We finally compromised on MillionAir because he said it was close to the motel that I'd never heard of either.

Don, great story about READING...

It is still a great place to fly and we go there AT LEAST once a year to the fantastic WW II show the first weekend of JUNE - it is the BEST WW II aviation show in the USA, IMHO.

There is also a new restaurant there you can fly into and pull right up to near the tower. ATC is super GA - Friendly there. One of the best in the state of PA.

I will keep posting different airport's REAL VIEWS if there is something interesting about them...I am now on the hunt for COMPASS ROSES around the area!  Each one a little different and somewhat creative in their designs...more to follow!

Yes, we also fly the NYC Hudson Route - it is really fun! One of the last great freedom runs for small planes!  There is also another one in the SFRA we fly to cut through on the East side of DC...saves some time vs. going all the way around Baltimore.

One day, I was able to fly over FOUR state capitols and our Nation's Capitol on a long X-C. Pretty tough to do that almost anywhere else (four states) but we can do it around here if you knwo the right shortcuts!
