I have a iLevil SW2 ADS-B receiver that is located 8 inches from my iFly 720 pannel mounted GPS. The ilevil drops ADS-B continuosly, has for several years. I lose the AHRS on the ifly and any ADS-B traffic or weather information. This happens about 70% of the flight. I just sent the iLevel last week for Tech diagnostics at iLevil. They charged me 100 dollars and said they loaded new software and did a hardware repair. I installed the unit this morning, took a flight and again intermittent ADS-B at best. My question is, Has anyone used the Stratus 3 receiver with an iFly 720 GPS? If so how well does it work? I'm about to just put a hammer to this ilevel junk!

There are lots of posts scattered around on this forum re: Stratus 3.  I think they could mostly be summed up as, "It works great when it's connected to the iFly, but because of its design, it's a pain to get it to connect and stay connected."  Something about how it needs to be switched to a mode that allows it to connect, but that can only be done with certain software, and there are various pitfalls associated with the iOS and Android options for doing that.  I have no personal experience, but it sounds to me like a lot of trouble considering there are other options avaialble.

For the price, it's hard to beat a Stratux, and you can build or buy pre-built units that include AHRS support.  I built one about 3 years ago for somewher around $150 and have been using it with no problems ever since.

I second Cobra's reply above about the Stratux; not to be confused with the Stratus.  Get the one from IFly and it will blue tooth to the 740 or you can hard wire it to a 720. For $150 it is hard to beat.  I have had mine for over two years without a problem.

To be clear, the Stratux connects to 720 or 740 via WiFi, not Bluetooth.  You'd need to hardline it to a 700, but I don't think many folks are using those any more.  I think you'd have to hardline it to a 520, too.

Stratux uses WiFi to connect to iOS and Android tablets/phones, too.

Unfortunately, the iFly Store says the Stratux they normally sell is currently out of stock.

I have a Stratus 3i, and while I've had a few issues, it works fine for me.

The issues.

1 You'll need an iDevice capable of loading and updating the latest Stratus Horizon Pro App (Free at the App Store). They don't (yet) have an android version.  The app will let you flip the "Open ADSB" switch that allows the iFly program to communicate with the Stratus 3i. It also allows you to reset the Stratus 3i to Straight and Level, if it gets out of calibration.

2.  If someone uses ForeFlight on your Stratus 3i, the ForeFlight will switch the Open ADSB switch to the Off position.  You'll need to turn that back on if you want to use iFly.  ForeFlight and iFly can NOT be used with the Stratus 3i at the same time.

3. When I loaded the last firmware update for the Stratus 3i, it changed some settings that I needed to find and reselect before it performed as I liked.  I've only done one firmware update, perhaps there won't be any more, or possibly they'll not have the firmware change user settings.

I too built a StratuX and liked it, except for having to set it up each time I flew, and agree that, for the price, it can't be beat.  The StratuS 3i came with the ADS-B transponder we had installed to comply with the 2020 ADS-B mandate.  The Stratus 3i is mounted out of sight under the dash, so less clutter.
